Thanksgiving 2002 Google Doodle with Turkey

Thanksgiving also known as Turkey day is especially observed in US and Canada. On the occasion of Thanksgiving Google released this doodle. The date of celebration differs according to the country. In United States Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on 4th Thursday of November and in the Canada it is celebrated on 2nd Monday of October.

On this occasion of Thanksgiving Day Google released a special doodle on November 28, 2002. There is a Turkey which is given as the central attraction of Thanksgiving 2002 Google Doodle. There is some intention for that special change. The main and common dish of Thanksgiving Day is Turkey. Roasted turkey is the main dish in Canada for Thanksgiving Day.

The selling of Turkey meat increases incredibly during the celebrations. Almost about one third of consumption of turkey meet occurs during the period of thanksgiving and Christmas. The dish is prepared with doing bread-based stuff and roasting of Turkey. A traditional herbal called sage along with onion and carrot are added to this.

Also there is Orange and Pumpkin included in the logo. In North America Pumpkin pie is a commonly served dish on the occasion of Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving Day is celebrated during autumn season. In autumn season the leaves will fall from the trees. So the logo contains the leave foliage. Now let’s come back to the celebration. There is no narrative description about the origin of Canada’s Thanksgiving celebration because there is no English presence until 18th century in country.

It is said that the starting of Thanksgiving celebration in Canada has the past history from 1578. The primary Thanksgiving celebration in Canada occurred in 1872, April 15 as a result of recovery of Prince of Wales from a serious illness. After that the Thanksgiving was celebrated on November 6 by the late 19th century. But after the 2nd world war due to the collision with Armistice Day the celebration postponed to the present date.

There were similar situation in United States. There were various dates for Thanksgiving Day in United States in different states. The fixing of date occurred after the reconstruction in 1870’s. At the beginning of 19th century the permanent day, last Thursday of November, is fixed. 1863 is the year when all the states celebrated the Thanksgiving Day on same date. In western countries several festivals similar to Thanksgiving Day is celebrated. Countries like Germany, Grenada, Korea, Japan, Liberia, Netherlands and Norfolk Island also celebrates Thanksgiving similar festivals.  Whatever be the origin or varieties in the date Thanks giving is celebrated as to express the gratitude towards God for his blessings showered on ours.
