Taras Shevchenko Google Doodle on 200th Birthday

Google Doodle on Lithuania and Ukraine on March 9th  honors Taras Shevchenko, the most famous and praised Ukrainian artist of 18th century. Writer, poet, artist and ethnographer, in all these areas Taras gave his  signature in his life time.

Taras Shevchenko Google Doodle was presented on Google homepage as a part of his 200th Birthday celebration. Google Doodle portraits Taras Shevchenko himself, sketching with feather. Though Taras was famous as writer, artistic skills including 1500  works makes his talent extends beyond barriers of world.

Google Doodle is a part of celebration allover nation on March 9th, 2014. UNESCO put forward idea of celebrating 2014 ‘The Year of Shevchenko’. Celebration programs for Shevchenko includes publiscatio of his amous work Kobzar in seven languages, Shevchenko’s coir and folk music festival, release of his art works, concerts, public functions and other programs to remember the cultural leader, creator of Ukrainian literature and modern Ukrainian language.

Zapoit or The Testament made his fame cross language barriers. The work was translated over dozens of languages. Apart from an artist, Taras was known as humanist and  outstanding figure of Ukraine preferring quality and freedom of nation as primary need. In 47 years of life, Shevchenko created about 300 literature works and more than 1000 paintings.

Born on 9th March, 1814 Shevchenko traveled to many places and met series of artist who inspired him in his works. It was on the next day after his 47th Birthday Shevchenko died, that is on 10th March 1861.

You can see great imapct of his works in Ukranian culture, literature and national thinking today also. Shevchenko was honored during his lifetime and also after his deaths. Many banknote and stamps are released portraying Shevchenko and his famous works. Streets, universities, museums and buildings were renamed to his name all over country to honor him. Memorials and statues are seen everywhere in Ukraine. Google released Taras Shevchenko birthday doodle on the day to celebrate along with the nation.
