August 1st Google Doodle to wish Swiss National Day 2006

Swiss National Day is celebrated  to commemorate the foundation of Swiss confederacy early in 1889. It is celebrated as National Holiday in Switzerland ,on August 1st.

The Federal Charter of 1291 which occurred in early August is the inspiration for Swiss Day celebration on that specific date. The formation of Old Swiss Confederacy has association with the Rütlischwur, dated to 1307 or Bund of Brunnen of 1315 by Aegidius Tschudi.

Now Swiss National Day is celebrated on August 1 with grand celebrations such as paper lantern parades, hanging strings of Swiss flags, Bonfires and fireworks. As a part of remembering Swiss National Day Google released special Google doodle on August 1st.  In Swiss National Day 2006 Google doodle , the main attraction is the National animal of Switzerland, that is cow.

Swiss National Day is celebrated not only in Switzerland but also in various parts of the world. The most famous celebration is in New York where the National Day is celebrated in grand by Swiss Benevolent Society of New York. These non – Swiss celebrations attracts great amount of people such as people from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania contains Swiss, Swiss-Americans and Friends of Switzerland people lives in America.

Places such as Swiss Club of Washington, in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier D.C, on the Swiss Embassy grounds will be the main parts of celebration. The main attraction of these celebrations are a crossbow competition. Another events like cultural events and games are also showcased.

In Britain, Switzerland National Day is celebrated in the name called Yorkshire Day. A Swiss baker initiate the National Day celebration in 1919 and is now celebrated with spending time in 6 cafe-tearooms across Yorkshire.
