Swiss National Day is celebrated to commemorate the foundation of Swiss confederacy early in 1889. It is celebrated as National Holiday in Switzerland ,on August 1st.
The Federal Charter of 1291 which occurred in early August is the inspiration for Swiss Day celebration on that specific date. The formation of Old Swiss Confederacy has association with the Rütlischwur, dated to 1307 or Bund of Brunnen of 1315 by Aegidius Tschudi.
Now Swiss National Day is celebrated on August 1 with grand celebrations such as paper lantern parades, hanging strings of Swiss flags, Bonfires and fireworks. In Britain, Switzerland National Day is celebrated in the name called Yorkshire Day. A Swiss baker initiate the National Day celebration in 1919 and is now celebrated with spending time in 6 cafe-tearooms across Yorkshire.
