National Aborigines & Islander Day is a very important day and the entire week is observed for spreading awareness. The observance of the week starts on July 1st of every year and lasts for a week. National Aborigines & Islander Day is the most important day of Aborigines & Islander people.

Google released National Aborigines & Islander Day Google Doodle including National Aborigines & Islander Day Observance logo in substitution to letter ‘O’ in the doodle. It’s a very special day over there and its use to recognize the contributions of Aborigines & Islanders in various areas of life in Australia. Logo of National Aborigines & Islander Day observance gave a different look for the Google Doodle2.

National Aborigines & Islander Day Observance committee began in 1920’s and the first official observance of the day started on 1938. It is a celebration which lasts for a month. The last day of celebration is a holiday in almost all the places. People of this community organize many special programs on this season. It was the initiation took by William copper to fight against the discrimination and the living condition prevailed in Australia for this community people formed the starting of celebration.

It was in 1957 National Aborigines & Islander Day Observance committee was formed officially. It had a wide supports from the various government   and churches from the initial time itself. It is to set up the human rights the National Aborigines & Islander Day Observance committee actually have begun.

It was since 1974 the popularity of the observance of day reached to a peak level. Today the National Aborigines & Islander Day observance begins on second Sunday of July and last for a week. The supports of the week organize a series of programs in association with this. Google also did its part in spreading the awareness by the National Aborigines & Islander Day doodlein its home page.

Programs of the National Aborigines & Islander Day includes a flag hoisting ceremony, the speeches of indigenous people, activities such as wall paper posting competition on spreading the significance of the day, Creating Aboriginal arts and quiz competitions, Studying  about the traditional Aboriginal arts and craft, reading the stories, essay writing competitions, painting competitions in schools and other public places.

A series of awards are given on this day of titles elder of the year male, person of the year, scholar of the year, appearance of the year, elder of the year female, youth of the year, caring for country award, sportsman of the year, life time achievement awards. It is to spread the importance of the day many of these awards are given out on his special day.

People from all around the world take part in the celebrations of the week. The heritage, heredity, traditions and culture is reflected in every programs of the week. It is to root the old traditions and customs of the community this week is observed with this much importance every year in Australia. In the year 2007 also the celebrations was well and crowded with many programs as in all other years. Participation for the day was somewhat 40% more during 2007 than in previous year.
