The picture appeared in the Google doodle is the same as  logo of Google Beta during the year 1997 and 1999. There is no change in letters appearing in the Google logo since 1997 to present. But in Beta version the name of version (Beta) is specified under the ‘Google’. It can’t be seen in present versions.

As in Google Beta doodle, the logo was the creation of Sergey Brin. It was the first computerized version of logo generated by Google. The letters are designed using GIMP, a free graphic program. In the logo there was an exclamatory mark added as similar to Yahoo logo, which is not present in present logo.

It is an interesting journey to go through the history of Google. The journey starts with a research project called Stanford Digital

Page initiated the project by considering the link structure and mathematical applications embedded in World Wide Web. The project is realized by nick name called “BackRub” and developed Stanford home page as starting point in March 1996.

Search engine utilized the Stanford website with the domain known as ‘google.stanford.edu’. The state information of BackRub page by the beginning of 1997 is amazing with total indexable HTML urls: 75.2306 Million and total content downloaded: 207.022 gigabytes. The primary database is of size 28 GB.

The registration of domain ‘google.com’ was on September 15, 1997 and by 1998 both Page and Sergey incorporated their company ‘Google Inc.’. At first both Page and Sergey were against the funded advertisements in search engine, but later they rethink and add some simple text ads.

As the name is changed from ‘BackRub’ to ‘Google’, the Logo has almost remains the same as Google Beta logo. Google has been ruling the web over past 14 years by leaving their opponents far away behind by popularity and the quality of services which they facilitate for the millions of internet users.

Apart from a fast and user friendly search experience Google grew up as a multinational corporation which provides other variety of services such as cloud computing, advertising and software technologies. By the last of 1998 Google’s search result is widely accepted as more innovative and better in terms of technical aspects with indexing of more than 60 million page links overcoming other existing sites like Yahoo, MSN.

The logo of Google Beta was used from 1997 until May 30, 1999. There was shadow of letters in previous logo and now the distance of projected shadow is reduced. Another difference is the color of letter ‘o’ is changed from yellow to orange.
