Lowell have also written books on Japanese religion, psychology, and behavior during the time that was spent in Japan. In his writings he discussed about various aspects, observations and academics of Japanese life. It includes religious practices, language, travel in Japan, economics and personality development.

In 1892 Percival Lowell is elected as Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1893 he moved back to United States. By his own interest, wealth and influence he began to dedicate himself in studying astronomy.

As a founder of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona he fueled speculation that there were canals on Mars. He contributed much in the discovery of Pluto and in the memory of him the first 2 letters of Pluto was taken from his name.
