Bastille Day 2000 Google Doodle

Bastille Day is another name given to French National Day in English speaking countries. Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14 in every year. It is known as Le quatorze juillet in France. It is celebrated as to commemorates ‘Fete de la Federation’ that was held on 1790. Fete de la Federation is conducted as a part of first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789.

National Flag is included in the doodle above the ‘l’ in the Google logo. There are 3 words written under the logo in French. The words are Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite. It means Liberty, equality, fraternity (brotherhood). This is known as the national motto of France.

The Fête de la Fédération was an official and huge event conducted on the 14 July 1790 in order celebrate the uprising of the short-lived constitutional monarchy in France. The short-lived monarchy is conserved as the happy ending of French Resolution. T

he event was celebrated in Champ de Mars far away from Paris.  Captain of the National Guard of Paris, General Lafayette took the oath to the constitution after the oath by King Louis XVI. After the official celebration people usually celebrate and enjoy their freedom by fireworks, fine wine.

In 1878, June 30 a feast was organized by officials of Paris to honor the French Republic. In 1879 another feast conducted in a semi-official manner. The randomness of celebration forced to choose the date “July 14” as a National Holiday. The assembly also favored the decision. So after that the day is considered as National Day of France which shows the unity and willingness of people even to die necessary for nation.

The Bastille Day Military parade is one of the attractions of the celebration. This is started after the French Parade held in Paris in the morning on July 14 since 1880. As we all have pride and affection towards our nation, National Day is considered as an occasion to commemorate and celebrate it.
