2004 Athens Olympic Games was held in Athens and is officially opened on August 14 wit 15,000 athletes participating from 202 countries. Google released a series of Google doodle as a part of 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The international event was organized from August 14th to 29th August 2004.
2004 Athens Olympic Games Google Doodle Opening Ceremony (Aug 14, 2004)
Athens Olympics Games Opening Ceremony was organized on August 14, 2004 in a strub of Athens known as Maroussi in Greece at the Olympic Stadium. Along with the 15,000 participants from 202 countries 72,000 spectators also witnessed the Athens Olympics Games Opening Ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony was started with twenty eight second count down and each second reminds about the Olympic Games hosted in Athens since from the start of modern Olympic Games. There was background music with drums and the whole event was highlighted with artistic programs. As in all Olympic opening ceremonies the main attraction was the parade of nations. The parade is watched by high – ranked politicians and personalities from all around the world. The music ceremony was fantastic and the torch relay and lightning of the cauldron adds more flavors to the ceremony. The broadcasting was done by the U.S. broadcaster NBC and the Japanese broadcaster NHK and named as first ever telecast with high definition television.
The doodle was released on August 14, 2004 as a part of Athens Olympics Games Opening Ceremony. The doodle reflects the tradition of Greek culture as displayed in the Opening Ceremony.
2004 Athens Olympic Games Google Doodle Swimming (Aug 16, 2004)
2004 Olympic Games Swimming competition was held from 14th August to 21st August. The completion takes place in Athens, Greece. In 2004 Olympic Games swimming competition about 937 swimmers from 152 countries participated for 32 events. There were 16 events for men and women for this outdoor swimming held at Olympic Aquatic Centre long course pool(50m).
The 16 categories of events are 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m and 1500 m freestyle completion, 100 m and 200 m backstroke competition, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke competition, 100 m, 200 m butterfly competition 200 m and 400m I.M 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m freestyle relay and 4 x 100 m medley relay. The above mentioned events are same for both men and women. As we analyses the medal table in both gender categories United States dominated the medal table in number of medals as well as in performance basis also. United States occupy the first position in the medal table with 12 Gold, 9 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.
Australia comes in 2nd position with 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals and Japan secured the 3rd position in medal table with 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. The doodle was released on 16th August and is apt to give a Greek athlete to swim in the pool. The logo of Google is floating on the water in the swimming pool.
2004 Athens Olympic Games Google Doodle Weight Lifting (Aug 19, 2004)
2004 Athens Olympics Games Weight Lifting competition was held in Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall. There were 15 total events were conducted 8 for men and 7 for women. The completion was between 249 weightlifters participated from 79 nations.
Men’s events were in 56 kg, 62 kg, 69 kg, 77 kg, 85 kg, 94 kg, 105 kg and 105 plus kg categories. The women’s events were in 48 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg and 75 plus kg categories of events. By analyzing the overall performance and the medal table of the event China has dominated over all other teams in both gender categories. In men’s category China won 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals. In women’s category China won 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal. As we analyses the overall medal table for both gender categories china secured the top position with 5 Gold and 3 Silver medals. In second position it’s the time for Turkey, the nation show the performance similar to China and secured the second position in medal table with 3 Gold and 1 Bronze medal. Thailand comes to third position with 2 Gold and 2 Bronze medals.
The doodle was released on 19th August, 2004 with a Greek woman lifting the weight with single hand. The 2 o’s in Google logo are replaced with 2 weights. So overall doodle pictured the event for which it is dedicated for.
2004 Athens Olympic Games Archery (Aug 17, 2004)
2004 Athens Olympic Games Archery competition was held at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, Greece. The competition was organized from 15th August to 21stAugust. There were 4 events conducted in the category of single and team events for both men and women.
One Hundred and Twenty Eight Archers competed for 4 Gold medal events from forty three nations. In men’s individual item Italy’s Marco Galiazzo, Japan’s Hiroshi Yamamoto and Australia’s Tim Cuddihy won the Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. In men’s team event South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Ukraine won the the Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. In women’s individual item Park Sung-Hyun and Lee Sung-Jin of South Korea won the Gold and Silver and Tim Cuddihy of Australia won the Bronze medal. In women’s team event South Korea, China and Chinese Taipei won the Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively.
Overall South Korea dominated in Archery with 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal. The special doodle on Archery was released on 17th August, 2004. As in other doodles a Greek women is aiming to the target. The doodle itself narrates the event for which it is dedicated for.
2004 Athens Olympic Games Google Doodle Fencing (Aug 18, 2004)
2004 Athens Olympics Games Fencing competition was held at Fencing Hall at the Helliniko Olympic Complex. There are 10 individual and team events which is categorized in to 3 styles of fencing: epee, foil and sabre. Fencing is the gam ewhich is featured in every modern Olympic Games. It is the first time in Olympic competition in which female competitors competed individually.
There were about 223 fencers competed from 42 nations at 2004 Athens Olympics Games Fencing competition. As we analyses the overall performance of each team participated the Italy has showcased wonderful performance and become top of the medal table with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze medal respectively. France made the equivalent best effort and secured 2nd position with 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Hungary comes in 3rd position with 1 Gold and 2 Silver. The doodle for Archery was released on 18th August, 2004 with 2 Greek players playing the Game.
